Carbon credits

Carbon credits represent a set amount of emissions that were either removed from the air or avoided being emitted.

Caring for and increasing tree cover in forests is one of many ways to create carbon credits. Another is to prevent emissions from organic waste. These are common ways, but there are many others.

An organization or individual can balance their emissions by buying offset units or carbon offsets. These represent reductions or removals of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
